About Blog Title...

As a child, it was one of my greatest delights to visit my grandparents in the spring when the whip-poor-wills began to call. Grandma and Grandpa lived in a remote valley of the Ozark Mountains where there were trees a plenty, and, seemingly, a whip-poor-will, or two, in each one.
My grandmother insisted that a whip-poor-will's call was not "whip-poor-will," but instead, "chip-butter-white-oak." I would listen really hard trying to hear it exactly as she said it was, but all I could hear was "whip-poor-will, whip-poor-will,..." But, I never let on to her.
I remember my grandpa watching and listening, with an amused look on his face, to one of these listening sessions. Shortly after that he began to call me, just for fun, "Chip Butter." It is a name I am proud to wear for I still love to hear that long, lonesome call on a warm summer's eve. And, sometimes, when I listen really, really hard, it seems I can hear quite clearly, "chip-butter-white-oak, chip-butter-white-oak..."

Farewell, Sweet October...

It was a rainy, rainy day here in the Ozarks, but even that couldn't take away
from the beauty of this last day of our beloved October.

Millie and I managed our walk over the hill, but it wasn't to be  done
without our getting wet ~ Millie more than me.

And, tomorrow while every tree and bush is still celebrating,
I will join with them and celebrate too, for tomorrow is
my birthday

  11. Belated Happy Birthday to you and I hope that you had a wonderful day. Did you go out to celebrate?

Well done with all the walks - I am all behind like the donkey's tail, for various reasons this year - so much happening, and then a ripped foot tendon and my asthma earlier in the summer. Time to play catch up.

What lovely autumn scenery with you - it sounds like October is your favourite month?

    1. Thank you Debra. I think an October birthday would be just the best of all. Usually the first day of November is nice, but it was quite dreary this year. But, I still had a great day. Millie loves hugs!

  14. It is always so hard to say goodbye to October! Like you, I savored the beauty and wished I could hold onto it, but of course, one can't. And so the leaves now lay on the ground instead of the trees, and I must look into the sky in the evenings for the most beautiful colors. God does have a way of providing color for us year round though, doesn't He! Fall and winter sunsets are most amazing. I hope you had a lovely birthday! Blessings and hugs :)

  15. Happy Birthday! These photos are beautiful, thanks for tolerating the rain to take them:)
You are going to have so much fun with your free motion foot. It creates room for your imagination to do so much. The first thing that I did with mine was I had a large rubber stamp of a vintage sewing machine. I stamped it on fabric and then free motioned over it to cover all the ink. After doing that I could see the possibilities and how easy it was to turn and curve around and do most anything you want with your stitches. I used that little project to make a bag to collect thread scraps before they went on the floor of my Art Barn :)
Copy and paste this into your search engine, if you want to see it.
